Role: Principal Transportation Solutions Architect

Job Summary

Randstad is seeking a highly experienced Principal Transportation Solutions Architect to lead the technical design and integration of a 24/7 mission-critical transportation operational ecosystem. This role is ideal for a senior engineer-turned-architect with deep expertise in transportation operations such as rail, transit, or aviation environments.

The consultant will work closely with operational stakeholders including dispatchers, controllers, planners, and engineering teams to design scalable, fault-tolerant architectures spanning IT/OT integration, real-time streaming platforms, cloud-hybrid ecosystems, and operational analytics.

Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Solution Architecture
Lead architecture and technical solutioning for complex transportation operational ecosystems.
Design integrations across:
Scheduling systems
Dispatch platforms
Crew management
Asset maintenance systems
Ensure high availability, resiliency, and fault tolerance for 24/7 mission-critical operations.
Process & Workflow Engineering
Conduct business process analysis and workflow decomposition.
Create As-Is and To-Be operational workflow models.
Perform gap analysis and operational process mapping aligned with real-world transport operations.
Architectural Documentation
Develop execution-grade technical artifacts including:
Solution Design Documents
Integration Architecture Maps
API Contracts
Non-Functional Requirement (NFR) Matrices
Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
Provide engineering-ready documentation with minimal ambiguity.
Data & Integration Engineering
Design event-driven integration architectures.
Build and support:
REST APIs
GraphQL APIs
Kafka/pub-sub streaming
Real-time operational data pipelines
Support IT/OT convergence and operational data ecosystems.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
Partner directly with operational users and leadership teams.
Support:
RFP/RFQ evaluations
Vendor assessments
Architecture governance
Communicate technical risks, blockers, and dependencies effectively.
Required Qualifications
Experience
10+ years of progressive IT/technology experience.
Strong prior hands-on engineering background in:
Application Development
Systems Integration
Data Engineering / Data Platforms
5+ years as:
Solutions Architect
Enterprise Architect
Transportation Domain Expertise
Experience supporting:
Rail Operations
Transit Systems
Airline / Aviation Operations
Familiarity with safety-critical or low-latency transportation environments preferred.
