What you'll be doing as a Mutuel Teller:

• Excellent customer service
• Money handling
• Calculating payouts
• Accepting bets
• Operating betting equipment
• Verifying tickets
• Maintaining organizational order
• Customer Service: Mutuel tellers interact directly with customers, assisting them in placing bets and answering questions about the betting process. They must provide a friendly and helpful demeanor, ensuring that customers have a positive experience.
• Accepting Bets: Tellers are responsible for accurately accepting bets from customers. This involves understanding the different types of bets available, such as win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, etc. They need to input the customer's bets accurately into the betting system.
• Calculating Payouts: When customers win their bets, mutuel tellers calculate and distribute the payouts. This requires a good understanding of odds, probabilities, and the specific payout structure of the betting event.
• Handling Cash: Tellers handle cash transactions throughout their shift. This includes accepting cash from customers placing bets and giving out cash to those who have won. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial to avoid errors.
• Operating Betting Equipment: Mutuel tellers use specialized computer systems and betting terminals to process bets and payouts. They need to be proficient in using these systems to ensure smooth operations.
• Verifying Tickets: Tellers are responsible for verifying the accuracy of betting tickets, ensuring that the customer's selections are recorded correctly before processing the bet.
• Maintaining Order: During busy events, mutuel tellers may need to manage lines and maintain order among customers to prevent confusion and ensure a fair betting process.
• Knowledge of Rules and Regulations: Tellers must have a solid understanding of the rules and regulations governing betting activities in their jurisdiction. This includes age restrictions, betting limits, and any other legal requirements.
• Cash Handling and Reconciliation: At the end of their shift, tellers are often required to reconcile their cash drawers, ensuring that all transactions are accurately accounted for.
