Senior Accountant-Financial Reporting (#231248)

This position provides the financial reporting department with a variety of accounting tasks, including assisting with preparation of the University audited financial statements. This position requires knowledge and training in the applications of generally accepted accounting principles. A high degree of accounting skill, organization, flexibility, multi-tasking, and professionalism will be the qualities desirable for this important role.
Essential Duties:
• Assists in the preparation of the University audited financial statements, which includes notes to the financials.
• Prepares journal entries and supporting schedules associated with the annual external audit.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of University lease accounting procedures and software.
• Reconciles a variety of administration department funds.
• Assists with the accounting and reporting for endowed chairs.
• Assists with the preparation of multiple financial reports, related financial surveys and management reports.
• Maintains the database of petty cash/change funds and complete reconciliation's of funds.
• Uses analytical skills to regularly review transactions and account balances for inconsistencies or potential issues.
• Performs other duties as assigned/required to ensure the overall successful operation of the department.
• Creates reports to balance financial statement transactions to source documents such as accounts payable transactions, deposits, and inter-university transactions.
• Produces statements of financial activity based upon monthly departmental business that can include section financials, consolidated department financials, and cash flow analysis.
• Prepares cost and budget transfers.
• Prepares the daily deposit of departmental receipts
• Prepares financial reports to document activity, substantiate transactions, and report findings.
• Performs financial analyses for report preparation, to improve departmental accounting procedures, and at the request of department head.
• Ensures the quality of data.
• Research inconsistencies and conducts follow-up investigations or consults with appropriate personnel.

Education: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 18 hours of accounting coursework.
Experience: 24 months experience as a professional Accountant
Skills:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Working knowledge of GAAP
• Ability to solve accounting and related problems
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work both independently and on a team
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferences:
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• PeopleSoft experience
Working Conditions:
• Physical: Sitting for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Use of computer and answer telephone.
• Environmental: Standard Office Environment.
