Description:
The CIWRO Radar Engineer conducts research and development of weather radar technology in collaboration with NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory. As a member of the Advanced Radar Techniques team, this individual will collaborate with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals to develop and demonstrate novel weather-radar signal-processing techniques and the use of phased-array radar (PAR) technology to provide the best possible observations, forecasts, and warnings. The incumbent will have the opportunity to contribute to existing projects as well as engage in relevant novel ideas of their own.

Typical Functions May Include:
Research and development of innovative signal-processing and remote-sensing techniques to improve the quality of meteorological products from weather radars
Exploration, implementation, and demonstration of unique capabilities offered by phased-array radar for weather observations
Transfer of technology to existing radar systems in government, public, and private organizations
Public dissemination of research to the broader engineering and scientific community

Job Requirements:
Required Education:
MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Equivalency/Substitution:
will accept a BS and 24 months of related experience in lieu of MS degree.

Skills:
Expertise in signal processing
Proficiency developing simulations using high-level programming languages
Willingness to work as an integral part of a high-energy team of engineers and scientists
Strong desire to learn new technical skills and apply them to research and development projects
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to multitask effectively in support of multiple projects
Physical Requirement: Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods; ability to communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others; ability to use a computer daily.

Departmental Preferences:
PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Proficiency with Matlab
Familiarity with radar or remote-sensing systems
