Tarleton State University is currently inviting applications for the position of Financial Accountant III within the Accounting Services Department. The position is based on Tarleton State University’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though hours may vary depending on operational requirements. The individual in this role will also serve as a Campus Security Authority as part of university compliance requirements. This posting is intended to fill two open positions within the department.

The Financial Accountant III performs advanced professional accounting duties involving the preparation, review, and analysis of financial records and reports. The position supports the university’s financial operations by maintaining accurate accounting systems, monitoring transactions, and assisting with financial reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

·       Perform complex accounting duties including recording, reviewing, and analyzing financial records, documents, and reports

·       Prepare financial statements, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for internal and external use

·       Conduct audits of financial and accounting documents to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards

·       Monitor daily cash flow activities and prepare accounting entries for processing within financial systems

·       Classify, code, post, and balance financial records and accounting documents

·       Conduct daily and monthly reconciliations for credit card clearing accounts and general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy

·       Monitor accounts to identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, or potential issues and notify management when necessary

·       Forecast financial expenditures and assist with financial planning processes

·       Serve as a resource for resolving accounting or financial issues and provide recommendations for improvements in financial systems, policies, and procedures

·       Maintain systems and financial controls necessary to accurately track expenditures and budget balances

·       Assist in the preparation of the institution’s Annual Financial Report

·       Perform additional accounting or administrative duties as assigned by department leadership

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

·       Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience

·       Minimum of four years of relevant accounting or financial experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·       Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software applications

·       Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities

·       Ability to collaborate effectively and work cooperatively within a team environment

·       Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines

Compensation & Benefits

·       Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications

·       Target annual salary range between $49,000 and $53,900 depending on experience and funding availability
