Position Summary
The purpose of the Building Automation Systems Control Technician position is to service, repair, maintain, plan, and execute upgrades to the Building Automation Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (BAS/EMS). Duties also include operation, maintenance, and repair of the associated heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and mechanical systems that serve campus buildings at the University of Oregon.

Interactions with other maintenance staff, as well as the campus community, occur daily in the course of performing routine work and responding to emergencies. Position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task. Decision making typically includes setting priorities, assessing customer needs, and responding to those needs.

Work is reviewed regularly by the Building Automation Systems Supervisor to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

Driver’s Certification:
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO driver's certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver’s license throughout employment in this position.

On-Call Rotation:
This position may be required to participate in an on-call rotation. Being on-call requires the participant to live in an area with cell phone reception or to be within cell phone reception for the entire duration of the on-call period. On call also requires the participant to be within a 1-hour drive of the UO campus for the entire duration of the on-call period to be able to respond to issues if needed. On-call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.

Essential Personnel:
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Special Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to successfully complete formal, continuing education classes to improve BAS/EMS competencies and working skillset. These include, but may not be limited to: mechanical, HVAC, electronic controls systems, programming proprietary computer software, Siemens, Alerton, Johnson Controls, etc.
• Must be able to use special calibration tools and test instruments such as recording meters, multi-meters, circuit tracers, megohmmeter, pneumatic pressure gauges, electronic thermometers, reciprocating (i.e. “Sawzall”) and hacksaw.
• Must become certified for confined space entrant and attendant within three (3) months of employment.
• Must remain current with controls systems and electrical technologies, methods, and applications.
• Must maintain a valid Oregon General Journeyman Electrical License.
• This position requires On-Call Rotation.


Minimum Requirements
Two years of journey-level experience planning, designing, installing, and maintaining building pneumatic electronic, and electrical control and distribution systems and possession of one of the following Oregon Electrician's Licenses appropriate to the work to be performed:

• General Supervising Electrician License
• General Journeyman Electrician License

• Experience with basic program logic syntax and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Block Programming.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Experience troubleshooting I/O devices.
• Experience troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Experience working with pneumatic HVAC controls.
