This attorney will be part of the Data, Intellectual Property, Technology & Innovation team within BNY Mellon’s Legal Department, focusing on enterprise-wide privacy, cybersecurity, and data matters. Responsibilities include:
• Providing legal advice on Americas privacy law to the Global Privacy Office, Privacy Compliance and other business and legal stakeholders, including advising on regulatory change initiatives.
• Providing privacy-related legal advice concerning business transactions, including reviewing and drafting complex privacy contract clauses with sophisticated 3rd party vendors, clients and business partners.
• Contributing to develop enterprise-wide best practices for incident response readiness and advising on all aspects of incident response, whether privacy and/or cybersecurity related.
• Coordinating with legal, regulatory and technology risk management colleagues on developments in privacy law and regulatory guidance.
• Developing training and other self-help tools for internal stakeholders on privacy, cybersecurity, and data provisions in vendor and client agreements.
• Performing legal research and coordinate with outside counsel on legal advice, follow up questions, etc.
Qualifications
• Strong working knowledge of US privacy laws and willingness to learn privacy laws in Latin America, Canada, and the Caribbean.
• Experience managing privacy and/or cybersecurity incident response.
• Working knowledge of US cybersecurity laws and practices, ideally in financial services or another critical infrastructure sector.
• Experience supporting global projects desirable.
• Must be articulate, organized, able to work in a collaborative manner and comfortable managing multiple matters at the same time involving different legal issues. Appetite for learning is also critical.
• 5+ years’ relevant experience preferred. In-house experience a bonus.
